Overview: Highlighting Thailand’s vibrant comic book culture, the BKK Comics Art Festival returns for its second edition. This year, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Bangkok, a special exhibition titled “Looks like something is going on” (original title in French: “On dirait bien qu’il se passe quelque chose”) will be showcased. Belgium’s significant contributions to the world of comics, with renowned artists like Hergé and Franquin, underline the relevance of this exhibition.

Exhibition Insight:

This display shines a spotlight on up-and-coming artists from French-speaking Belgium. These creators, many of whom began crafting comics prior to their debut publications, with some being self-taught, have often found their voice through fanzines and self-publishing. The exhibition reflects the breadth and diversity of comics, enabling these artists to exhibit their prowess.

It delves into the current creative pulse of Brussels and Wallonia, traversing genres from youth tales by C. Pollet, experimental work by S. de Groef, sci-fi narratives by M.Ghost, to societal commentaries by R.Rosen, A.El Hamouri, G.Molist, and more.

This year, Bangkok Comic Art Festival will be welcoming American comic book artist, Mike Van Orden, who will lead a beginner class on drawing comic book characters. Mike is a well-known artist who works for Marvel, Aspen Comics, Upper Deck, and more.

From drawing for fun in his spare time, Mike turned his passion into a profession and has helped hundreds of people to work on the skills required to pursue their artistic passion, and even turn it into something more.
